Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) is the process which allows rival telecoms companies to put their own equipment onto the end of a consumers local loop to offer services in competition to BT. This is planned to eventually roll out to over 6500 exchanges across the UK with hundreds already being "unbundled" every month.
This technological revolution will be particularly pertinent to Small Businesses enabling them to have access to high speed internet connections which, due to cost, were traditionally only available to larger organisations. For example a 2mb leased line will usually cost over £1000 per month. Local Loop Unbundling should reduce this to as little £150 per month.
