M12 Saddle Up!
***Update 16/04/2008 Fundraising has really begun to gather pace now and we are ebbing ever closer to our target amount. A big thank you to Banbury's, Carisbrooke Shipping, Handshake Recruitment and a special mention to Island Telecom who have pledged £500! To make a donation please go to www.justgiving.com/m12solutions
On the 4th of May 5 members of M12, along with 10 suppliers/customers/friend, will be cycling around the Isle of Wight to raise money for the Southampton Adult Cystic Fibrosis Department. Allan Packer, Andrew Skipsey, David Stephens, Ed Bodiam and Richard Walker will all be donning their best lycra and cycling the 100km around the Isle of Wight. Support us at www.justgiving.co.uk/m12solutions The money raised will be used to improve the quality of the lives of those suffering with Cystic Fibrosis. Patients often have to spend a great amount of time in hospital and the nature of this disease results in sufferers being kept in isolation. The Southampton ward is clearly underfunded and offers little in terms of occupying in patients. Many of the rooms do not have an operating TV and poor telephone service. This desperately needs to be addressed as many of the patients can only receive visits at weekend. These plan for your donations are: Install a media server, new high speed wireless network, new internet connections and the provision of new laptops. This will provide patients with decent internet access and importantly a free method of communication with their families! It will also provide them with on demand music and television free of charge. This will make a huge difference to maintaining the sanity of many of the patients enduring long stays with little contact. Other areas the money will be used for example are the granting of funds for relatives of extremely sick or dying patients to travel and stay nearby the hospital. Some of the patients are admitted from areas over 100miles away! alternatively providing childcare for a parent with CF whom otherwise would not be able to attend hospital for crucial treatment! It's worth remembering that it's not always about the research, consideration must also be given to improving the quality of life for those with later stage CF, and this is what we want to concentrate on.
